Why, when and where?

We are a group of English teachers, with many years of experience teaching English as a second language.

NOW FIRST CERTIFICATE!!!

We have said it many times and always the same question comes up…

“Why should I take the exam?”

Well, it is the next logical step after maybe years of effort learning English… It is, above everything, a way to prove to yourself how much you have learned and t to walk away with a final reward for your effort, The First Certificate Diploma.

Moreover, if you want to study or work in an English speaking country you must probably need to prove your level of English.

Having the First Certificate Diploma proves that you can use every day written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level, a B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, for work and study purposes.

Learn more about Paper 1: READING

Hello everyone,

How are you?

Ready to learn more about Paper 1: READING?

This section of the First Certificate Exam evaluates your reading comprehension. It lasts an hour and  has 30 questions divided into three parts as follows:

Multiple choice: You will read a text and choose from four possible answers (A, B, C or D) for each of the 8 questions.

Gapped text-sentences: You will read a text from which 7 sentences have been removed and you will then choose from given sentences to complete the text. There will be an extra sentence that will not fit any of the blank spaces.

Learn more about Paper 2: WRITING

Let’s take a look at the writing section of the FCE exam.

Remember that the exam lasts an hour and 20 minutes and that time you will have to produce two different pieces of writing:

Letter or email:

You will be given some information on a letter or email with some notes with which you will have to write a response.

This response must be 120 to 150 words long.

Learn more about Paper 4: LISTENING

How are you?

The oral comprehension, LISTENING, section of the First Certificate Exam is probably the one that exam takes or candidates fear the most.

How do you feel about it?

We agree it is a tricky section yet we know you can do very well. You just need lots of practice and to concentrate during the exam.

It is very important you stay focused during the exam and to follow the instructions carefully. Also, you will be given time to read the possible answers before listening and it is very important to do so carefully.

NOW, it is time to talk about paper 5, SPEAKING

SPEAKING a language fluently is our final and ultimate objective when we study a foreign language.

So, the first thing we would like to tell you about this section of the exam is that you should look at it as a way reaching that final and ultimate objective, which is  having a nice conversation with another or other candidates monitored by the examiner.
